Odisha Student Union Elections on October 14

Bhubaneswar:  Amidst a series of campus violence in certain places, students union elections across colleges in Odisha will be held on October 14.

The polling for the students union elections will be held between 8 am and 2 pm on October 14, a higher education department notification said today.


While the candidates will file nomiation papers on October 5, the last date of withdrawal of nomination is October 6. ‘Why I stand for’ meeting will be held on October 13.


Votes will be counted and the election results will be declared on the day of polling on October 14. The elected candidates will take oath on October 15, it said.

“We have authorised the college authorities to cancel polls if there is violence in the campus over the students union elections,” Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi said.


Meanwhile, the students union election at Vani Vihar in the Utkal University campus, SCS College at Puri and a few others elections have been cancelled due to unrest.


Reports from Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts said that pre-poll violence escalated at Marsaghai College and Dhamnagar College respectivekly.


The student union advisory board of Revenshaw University today decided to conduct elections though there were some tension in the campus.
